The nonprofit sector in Taiwan has been developing rapidly ever since the late 1980's, and its vitality doesn't show any signs of decline. Since its establishment in 1990, the Himalaya Foundation has always been concerned with improving the nonprofit sector in Taiwan by promoting more accountability and transparency in NPO work, better management practices, and a better legal environment for the regulation and supervision of NPO activities. The Foundation's efforts towards the development of the third sector is visible in its projects which include sponsoring academic research on the third sector, conducting surveys of the situation of Taiwan's nonprofit sector, publishing directories of foundations and translations of major books on the subject of NPO management, organizing conferences, and encouraging interaction and exchange among NPOs in Taiwan and abroad.
