Establishment of the NPO Management Library
The Himalaya Foundation started preparation work to establish the NPO Management Library in 1998 by collecting books and journals on NPO management, as well as publications on nonprofit organizations. The library officially opened to the public on September 30, 1999.
Library Catalogue
At present, the library has 1300 books, 12 journals and some 400 documents on individual nonprofit organizations in both Chinese and other foreign languages. The catalogue of the library is in continuous expansion and can be consulted on the Internet.
Areas Covered by the Library Catalogue
- Establishment: regulations regarding mission, goals, functions, formation, and management on NPOs.
- Management: executive board, modes of leadership and management, management of human resources, strategic planning and annual planning, financial management and budget control, information management, and theories of nonprofit management.
- Operations: grant planning and allocation, project planning and realization, and alliances among nonprofit organizations
- Resource mobilization: nonprofit organizations' public relations, sources of funding, fundraising strategies, and fundraising theories.
Target Users
- Professional NPO workers, representatives of the media, government supervising agencies representatives, as well as students or faculty of university social science departments.
- The library uses a membership system where users can request a membership card upon presenting their personal ID card. Members can consult documents on-site free of charge, borrow documents, have access to Internet, consult library user manual and participate in other activities organized by the library.
Opening Hours Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm (closed on National holidays).
