Apart from actively assisting Taiwan NPOs in planning the digitalization of their management process as well as designing Intranet management systems, the Himalaya Foundation has at the same time been helping many organizations plan, design, maintain and update their external websites. Thanks to the experience we have accumulated in this area, we have identified problems commonly faced by NPOs in setting up and maintaining their website:
- NPOs call upon the services of professional Internet companies to design the website but there is no website administration interface that allows staff to easily and rapidly post new content. Staff must provide the new content to the Internet company and rely on it to post information.
- NPOs call upon volunteers who are knowledgeable in web design, but because of the high turn-over rate in volunteers, it is difficult to create a complete website, both in terms of its structure and content.
- NPOs rely on staff knowledgeable in web design, but because of limitations in the time they can devote to the website project or in their knowledge of more advanced techniques, the website that is designed does not totally meet the organization’s expectations.
In order to help NPOs avoid these difficulties, and provide them with a practical solution to easily maintain and update their website, the Himalaya Foundation has come up with a website design system, NPOWeb.
